The Year 2008 is Year One for Flexible Active-Matrix Displays

28 March 2008

This year marks the sounding gun for the global flexible Active Matrix (AM) display market, with numerous companies expected to offer an abundance of products in 2008.

Driven by the arrival of AM technology, which enables higher-quality images, worldwide flexible display market revenue will reach $2.8 billion by 2013, up 35 times from about $80 million in 2007, according to iSuppli Corp.

Applications for all these displays include e-readers, e-paper, signage, mobile phones, electronic display cards, electronic shelf labels, automotive screens, cloth/wearable and other novel products.

“The flexible display market is at the beginning of its lifecycle. Starting this year flexible displays will provide consumers with innovative and fascinating products,” said Jennifer Colegrove, Senior Analyst at iSuppli. “For display suppliers, the advent of flexible AM technology will provide a viable, long-term revenue stream for a product that will be in high demand.”
