Oak-Mitsui Technologies LLC (a subsidiary of Mitsui Kinzoku of Japan) and Shocking Technologies announce that they have signed a letter of intent to work together to bring Shocking’s X static Voltage Switchable dielectric material to market, including Sanmina-SCI eESD technology.
Shocking and its partner, Sanmina-SCI, have demonstrated 30,000 Volt protection levels in memory devices utilizing embedded ESD (eESD). According to Shocking, the voltage switchable polymer technology provides a less than 25 micron thick layer in printed circuit boards that protects 100 percent of the IO’s on the board when designed and optimized with eESD. The material is especially well suited for cell phones and other handheld devices, where it not only improves reliability but decreases cost and saves space, the company said.
Lex Kosowsky, Shocking’s President and CEO said, “We are excited to have a partner like Oak-Mitsui who can not only bring us world class manufacturing and distribution but is a technology leader. The synergies in the markets that we address and Oak-Mitsui’s industry leading position in copper foil and embedded capacitance technologies all add up to the perfect partner to bring X static to market. The ability of X static to be processed easily without changing the normal PCB manufacturing flow allows it to become an industry standard for ESD protection in electronic products. Together with our mutual partner Sanmina-SCI, we believe we can bring a powerful solution to a problem that has plagued electronics since their inception”
Fujio Kuwako, Oak-Mitsui Technologies’ President said, “We are pleased Shocking has chosen us as its first partner to pursue commercialization of X static. Shocking’s unique solution is a perfect complement to our other embedded technologies. Our goal is to supply as many compelling solutions as possible and Shocking’s solution has very broad applications. We look forward to working with the Shocking and Sanmina-SCI teams.”
Shocking anticipates that the material will be available in sample quantities in the 3rd quarter of 2008 and in full production quantities later this year.
