Hon Hai Group, a world`s leading EMS (electronics manufacturing service) group, is going to ink a letter of interest to invest in Taiwan`s Export Processing Zone (EPZ) Administration under MOEA, focusing on the digital content sector in Taiwan`s southern city of Kaohsiung, according to officials of EPZ Administration.
Hon Hai Group`s move to invest in Kaohsiung has attracted intense attention among legislators and local administrators in Taiwan. Ou Chia-jui, Director of EPZ Adminstration, noted that the administration has been in contact with Hon Hai Group and the group plans to sign a letter of interest to invest, with some insiders revealing that the letter may be signed this week.
Hon Hai Group may not set up its plant in Kaohsiung Software Science Park, partly because such land in the park`s south block has been fully developed, and partly because Kaohsiung Computer Association is now actively applying to rent land in the north block to build e-malls. Thus, EPZ Administration officials have asked Kaohsiung City government for new land for Hon Hai Group`s investment.
Hon Hai Group plans to employ 3,000 software engineers to develop digital content and software in Kaohsiung and the move is expected to generate for the local software industry huge benefits.
Having promised new President Ma to invest in Kaohsiung, Hon Hai Group Chairman Terry Guo`s move to set up operations in that city would enable EPZ administration to better develop neighboring industrial parks and EPZs, bolstering economic development in the southern port city.
