Hon Hai Group Plans to Build Mega Modern New Town in Taiwan

8 August 2008

Hon Hai Group plans to build a digital hi-tech environment-friendly town as site of its global headquarters and employee residence capable of accommodating 240,000 persons at cost of over NT$100 billion, said Terry Guo, Hon Hai Chairman on August 6, 2008.

Guo announced the plan at a press conference following a meeting with Premier Liu Chao-shiuan at the group`s headquarters in Tucheng, Taipei County, noting the new town will feature wireless broadband network, smart transportation, hi-tech facilities for daily life, digital medicine, sustainable ecology, humanistic root, and education/training facilities. The mega plan will be settled within six months, according to Guo.

Guo pointed out that the site of the plan is still undecided and the choice will hinge on the extent of support of municipal governments and overall deployment of Taiwan`s industrial structure.

Premier Liu praised Hon Hai`s new town plan, saying it will set up a paradigm of pursuing bold dream for Taiwanese people.

Officials of the Ministry of Economic Affairs promised to lend full support to Hon Hai to secure the plot of land, estimated at scores of hectares, for the new town, especially if the plot is owned by state enterprises. They figure the site will be most likely located in southern Taiwan, such as Kaohsiung County or Pingtung County, boasting spacious idle land.

In addition to the new-town plan, Guo also pledged to expand the group`s investments in Taiwan, mainly in the fields of optoelectronics, medical equipment, digital contents, precision equipment, and automation equipment, plans which will create large amount of high-level job vacancies, including 20,000 R&D personnel, 5,000 technicians, and 5,000 managerial staffers, to be filled by Taiwanese people mostly.
