
IPC, who is participating atGlobalTRONICS 2008, held a networking breakfast on September 8 at the Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore. David W Bergman, CAE, Vice President, InternationalRelations, IPC, presented the association’s activities in Asia, including the standardization activities of its Technical Group Asia(TgAsia), which has formed16 local task groups in China working on IPC standards. According to Bergman, TgAsia is set up to provide Asian users of IPC standards a platform to participate in IPC standards development activities and expand the knowledge of those in the industry. This includes the translation of IPC standards into Chinese, and creating and developing new standards that are of interest to the Asian electronics industry. BesidesChina, other countries that were covered in the presentation included Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea and the Philippines. Bergman also mentioned that IPC will be looking towards the setting up of standards in photovoltaic manufacturing. Representatives from soldermaterials and services providers such as Kester and Alpha Metals took part in lively discussions on the development of existing standards and test methods for halogen free. |
