Worldwide shipments of netbooks, or mini-note PCs, are expected to reach 14.6 million units in 2009, a significant growth after its commercialization in the fourth quarter of 2007 by Taiwan-based Asustek Computer Inc (ASUS brand), according to Displaybank, a global leader in electronic display market research.
In 2009, the research firm said, shipments of netbooks are expected to increase to 26.3 million units to make up 17.2 percent of the overall notebook PC market.
Displaybank`s data show that Taiwan`s Acer Inc and ASUS together occupied more than 70 percent of the global netbook market share in 2008, with such proportion in 2009 expected to exceed 67 percent.
