Benchmark Electronics Announces Aerospace Certification For its Thailand Facility

6 January 2009

Benchmark Electronics Inc announced that it has been awarded the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) AS9100 certification for its Ayudhaya, Thailand facility. With this certification, Benchmark Electronics said it becomes one of the few electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers in Asia to be AS9100 certified. This accomplishment adds to the site’s current certifications including ISO-9001, ISO/TS-16949 (automotive) and ISO-13485 (medical) certifications. Additionally, Benchmark’s Ayudhaya, Thailand facility is a US FDA registered facility and maintains compliance to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Quality System Regulation, 21 CFR Part 820; Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP), prescribed by the FDA for regulated product manufacturers.

“This certification strengthens our ability to serve the defense and aerospace industry,” stated Cary T Fu, the Company’s Chief Executive Officer. “By achieving this milestone our Thailand teams have demonstrated their commitment to quality and reliability. Both of these characteristics are of the utmost importance to our customers.”

AS9100 is an international standard containing requirements for establishing and maintaining quality management systems for the aerospace industry. This standard contains all ISO 9001 requirements and incorporates additional aerospace qualifications. The AS9100 standard was established by the IAQG for the purpose of achieving significant improvements in quality and safety, and reduction of cost throughout the value stream. This organization includes representatives from aerospace companies in America, Asia/Pacific, and Europe. All major aerospace manufacturers and suppliers worldwide require compliance and/or registration to AS9100.
