AUO Announces Diversification Into Green Energy Biz

AU Optronics Corp (AUO), the largest thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturer in Taiwan, recently announced to explore the green energy business and plans to produce solar cell panels with established techniques and equipment.

AUO has set up an energy project office under the supervision of the president`s office, marking an official statement of its approach to green energy solutions. In addition to manufacturing "green" TFT-LCD panels, AUO claimed that the energy project office would devote efforts in green energy solutions and plans to set up a pilot production line in AUO site in Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) in a bid to fulfill the company`s corporate social responsibility by striving for a better living environment for future generations.

According to the panel maker, global warming issues have been induced by traditional fossil fuel energy; AUO thus proactively seeks solutions in clean energy as one of its main future businesses. The advantages of solar electric systems, for example, include zero greenhouse emission, convenience for households to install, and significant increases in energy transmission efficiency by smart grid distribution and energy storage.
