Paragon: Supply Chain ‘Decoupling’ is Key to Providing Flexible EMS Solutions

16 January 2009

With assembly sites in Europe, Asia and North Africa, Paragon Electronics Group believes that decoupling the supply chain from manufacturing is vital in order to respond rapidly to customer’s changing requirements.

Paragon’s EMS business model is based around the company’s multiple assembly facility solution which utilises both Paragon Group manufacturing locations in the UK and offshore, along with accredited manufacturing partners around the world. Spanning the entire manufacturing process from supply chain management through to assembly, test and order fulfilment, the integrated contract manufacturing service has answered calls for capabilities that are not limited by technology, capacity or geography. With in-house engineering and technical teams managing each project, Paragon said its manufacturing network is able to fulfil a broad array of electronic manufacturing and logistical services from complex, fast-turnaround NPI through to sophisticated Kanban-driven JIT delivery systems for finished and tested products.

Paragon’s Group Managing Director John Mayes explains: “Our centres of excellence approach means that we have equal focus on each element of the process – from strategically managing electronics supply chains through pcba assembly, box build, complex mechanical integration and test. We strongly believe in the maxim ‘one size does not fit all’ and feel that a key reason why our approach is so successful is because, for many OEMs, it makes no sense to put themselves in the hands of a single EMS provider. With complete control over component supply plus the ability to mobilise multiple sites and ship them assembly-ready kits, we overcome a number of the issues for OEM’s where they ‘outgrow’ their EMS partner.”

John continues: “Our in-house team manages the transition to ensure that nothing is lost in the transfer to whichever assembly facility is most appropriate to support changes in manufacturing requirements such as increased volumes, new production processes or test requirements. By providing a single point of contact for customers whilst still providing ‘best-fit’ manufacturing solutions and the flexibility of a decoupled supply chain we fulfil customer’s precise business requirements without compromise.”
