Foxconn Gets License to Make Cell Phones, Parts in North Vietnam

A subsidiary of Foxconn, the world’s leading producer of electronic products, has received a license for its $200 million facility to produce cell phones and spare parts in northern Vietnam.
According to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) website, the factory of Effinville International Co Ltd will have a capacity of 89 million units a year.
The plant would be located in the Binh Xuyen II Urban Industrial Zone, it said.
The firm’s latest move comes as part of the group’s investment plan to inject $5 billion into hi-tech projects across Vietnam.
Taiwan’s Foxconn said it would produce Nokia phones, iPods, PlayStations and Sony laptops.
Earlier in 2007, Foxconn opened a plant in Que Vo Bac Ninh IP to make camera modules, main boards and connectors.
It plans to invest around $1 billion in Ho Chi Minh City to make high tech products and set up a high tech commercial service center in the new Thu Thiem urban area.
Vinh Phuc Province has received total foreign direct investment (FDI) of around $2 billion, the head of the FIA, Phan Huu Thang, told Thanh Nien Daily.
The FDI sector in the province achieved the highest growth of 33 percent last year and accounted for 44.7 percent of the province’s output of goods and services.
