Nu Horizons Electronics Launches Origin Electronics Asia

9 April 2009

Nu Horizons Electronics Corp, a global distributor of advanced technology semiconductor, illumination and power solutions, has formed a new business unit aimed at strengthening its presence in the Asia Pacific technology marketplace. Origin Electronics Asia, a division of Nu Horizons Electronics Asia Pte Ltd, is headquartered in Hong Kong, with initial geographic sales and engineering coverage in China (Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen), and Taiwan.

“Building on Nu Horizons’ core business philosophy of design support for customers and suppliers, Origin will focus on demand creation for new products in a variety of vertical markets and applications,” stated Wendell Boyd, President of Nu Horizons Electronics Asia. “Origin’s team of highly technical sales and field applications engineers are expected to provide customers with in-depth product knowledge and design expertise for a limited number of complementary semiconductor manufacturers.”

Chua Hai Yen has been named General Manager of the new entity. Prior to joining Origin Electronics, Hai Yen was the General Manager of Braemac Ltd, an Asia Pacific Semiconductor Distributor based in Hong Kong. Hai Yen also served as the Sales and Marketing Director for Achieva Component China and began her career as the Regional Marketing Manager with Memec Asia Pacific.

“Hai Yen brings with her 12 years of distribution experience in the Asia Pacific region. She has played a key role within several companies in her distinguished career, managing supplier relationships and defining strategies to grow overall profitability,” said Boyd. “As we move forward, we believe that Hai Yen’s experience and drive will position Origin on a path for growth.”

“We anticipate that Origin will provide us with a strategic opportunity to expand our operations and enhance our competitive position throughout the Asia Pacific region,” said Kent Smith, Executive Vice President of worldwide sales and marketing for Nu Horizons. “Our goal is to deliver more value to our customers, leverage Nu Horizons’ world class logistics and global infrastructure to create a new organization, and provide a seamless experience every step of the way.”
