Inventec Targets Global Market for Software Development

Taiwan-based Inventec Corp, the world`s fourth largest OEM (original equipment manufacturer) of notebook PCs, has planned to set up an software development and service offerings center China, in an effort to sharpen its competitive edge to expand business operations in the global market for software development services, according to company sources.

Inventec has been engaged in the software industry for over 20 years, and has been certificated by CMMI-L5 (Capability Maturity Model Integration Level 5) since 2007, attesting to its world-caliber capability of software development. The firm plans to set up a software development center in Shanghai, and expects the business to contribute 10 percent, or an estimated NT$30 billion to its combined sales revenue in the next two to three years.

The firm indicated that the business operations cover development of own-brand Dr Eye translation software, embedded software, integrations of hardware and software, as well as offshore software development outsourcing service offerings. This year, the firm, with Dr Eye serving as the major sales contributor, is going to actively explore the Chinese market for translation software.

In addition, Inventec will tap the huge business opportunity in the global market for Chinese learning materials, as an estimated 40 million persons worldwide are learning Chinese at present. The number of learners of Chinese is expected to surge to 100 million in 2010. The lucrative market has prompted Inventec to develop Dr Eye Chinese-German and Chinese-French versions.

In software development outsourcing services, Inventec has contracted scores of Taiwanese banks to develop Internet banking service software so far. The firm will move to vie for contract orders for the software development services from banks in China, Europe, the US and Japan in the future.
