DELO Industrial Adhesives presents newly developed adhesives for display manufacturers at the SID display fair taking place in San Antonio, USA, from June 2 to 6, 2009. The specifically developed adhesives are used in electrophoretic displays, eg. novel e-readers. Studies by DisplaySearch and FlexTech Alliance expect the market to grow to 48 million items by 2018.
The e-paper laminates, however, react sensitively to too high or too low temperatures and humidity. Therefore, the adhesive serves an edge sealant and protects the displays against temperature and humidity, the company said. DELO’s products are not cured by UV light – as is conventional for cationic-curing epoxy resins – but with visible light. As electrophoretic displays can also be flexible or bent, the adhesive must adapt to them accordingly. Examples of usage include flexible organic solar cells and flexible OLEDs.
