Sigma’s CoAir Attracts ODM Partners to Pursue Home Networking Market

3 June 2009

Sigma Designs, a provider of digital media processing system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for consumer electronics, announced several strategic partnerships with original design manufacturers (ODM) Alpha Networks Inc, GigaFast, and Gemtek. As a result of these partnerships, each ODM will offer a coax to Ethernet bridge solution based on Sigma Designs’ CoAir chipset.

"As the battle for the home wireless network continues to evolve, Sigma remains committed to developing the most reliable and cost effective home networking solution for the whole home,” said Hung Nguyen, General Manager and VP, Sigma Designs Wireless Products Division. "These unique partnerships allow Sigma to continue down that path while increasing the breadth of our connected home product portfolio to offer ODMs.”

The partnerships will serve different aspects of the home networking market. Alpha Networks Inc aims to provide total solutions for the connected digital home, including Home NAS, Network Media Player, IP set-top box, IP-Camera, power line, and Coax, as well as wireless for home networking solutions. Gemtek will be focused on reference designs for digital media adapters, Gateways, and IP set top box thin clients. GigaFast will be targeting indoor and outdoor power over Coax and Ethernet networking devices.
