Computex Taipei 2009, the second largest trade fair for the ICT (information and communication technology) industry, ended on June 6 in Taiwan to create business opportunities valued at an estimated $20 billion, according to TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), the show organizer.
Walter Yeh, Executive Vice President of TAITRA, indicated that Computex Taipei attracted 32,178 foreign buyers from 214 countries and over 100,000 visitors this year, respectively up 1 and 5 percent from 2008. Also, a number of heavyweight buyers, including BestBuy of Canada, Siemens of Germany and Alcatel-Lucent of France, attended procurement conferences to seek Taiwanese suppliers.
Noteworthy is that, he added, the number of large-sized foreign buyers with annual revenue of $10 million and above totaled 256 this year, more than double that last year, with many from emerging countries, such as Turkey, Argentina, Russia, India and the United Arab Emirates.
According to TAITRA, the US, Japan, Hong Kong, China and Korea were the top 5 countries in buyer numbers. Besides, buyers from China, India and Australia also increased by 34, 18 and 29 percent respectively, indicating the increasing global influence of Computex Taipei.
