Electronic Trend Publications (ETP) has released "The Worldwide Electronics Manufacturing Services Market, 6th Edition" — a research report focusing on all the players in the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) industry, including contract manufacturers (CMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs). According to the report, the worldwide EMS market grew 12.5 percent in 2008, as the worldwide electronics assembly market grew a mere 0.5 percent. After a painful downturn in 2009, the EMS market will resume growth in 2010, as the outsourcing of electronics manufacturing continues its relentless march.
The report also forecasts the worldwide electronics assembly value (cost of goods sold). This forecast was developed by looking at over 40 product segments. ETP estimates that total electronics assembly value was $964 billion in 2008 and will grow to over $1.2 trillion in 2013. Fueled by this huge market, ETP believes that the EMS industry will grow from $294 billion in 2008 to $435 billion in 2013.
