With a flood of contract orders to fill in the second half of this year, Taiwan-based Quanta Computer Inc, the world`s largest notebook PC supplier, will hopefully keep its lead in the industry this year, according to Barry Lam, Chairman of the firm.
Despite Compal Electronics Inc following closely behind, Quanta posted shipment of 3.2 million notebook PCs in June, effectively holding off the runner-up. Furthermore, after securing a bumper crop of contract orders from its major clients, HP and Apple, Quanta is optimistic about a 50 percent growth in business for the second half from the first half, and is expected to ship 36 million notebook PCs, posting annual revenue of NT$810 billion.
Noteworthy is that the firm has already signed a contract with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on jointly develop "New 3C" or cloud computing, connectivity and client devices. Believing the new 3C technological applications to revolutionize electronic industries, Lam said his firm will be focused on the field in the future.
