Optimistic about market prospects of e-book readers, Qisda Corporation, a Taiwanese contract manufacturer of consumer electronics, will concentrate on manufacture of the product to prop up its business growths in the future, according to Hsiung Hui, CEO of the firm.
Hsiung indicated that his firm`s major product lines, including LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors and projectors, contribute over 90 percent to sales revenues a year, allowing the firm to achieve economy of scale in production.
To secure business growth, Qisda has stepped up production of some profitable products, including e-book readers, industrial displays, electronic signages, high-end LED (light-emitting diode) fixtures and tele-home care instruments, with e-book readers most likely to grant the firm a promising future, according to Hsiung.
He pointed out that scale of the market for e-book readers grows steadily as the product is increasingly popular with consumers. With intense efforts, Qisda expects contribution of the products to surge starting next year.
The firm posted operating incomes of NT$290 million for the second quarter of this year, but suffered a net loss of NT$440 million in the quarter after writing off non-operating losses of NT$630 million.
In the meantime, the firm shipped a total of seven million units of LCD monitors in the first half of the year, including 3.8 million units in the second quarter. With global market demand recovering and seasonal booms hitting electronics and related industries, the firm is expected to turn profitable in the third quarter.
