Quanta Computer Inc, one of Taiwan`s largest contract manufacturers of notebook PCs, said it is assured of landing orders for 10 to 12 new notebook models from Hewlett Packard.
With such new orders, Quanta predicted it will edge out rival Compal Electronics to regain the lead globally in contract manufacturing such product with shipments reaching 50 million notebooks in 2010.
Since the beginning of this year, Quanta has been dueling Compal for the global lead in contract manufacturing notebooks. Compal has seen sales hit historic-highs for four consecutive months, outperforming Quanta for six months in a row.
An industry insider believed Quanta will very likely acquire over 40 percent of Apple Computer`s iPhone orders in 2010, which is expected to contribute between NT$40 billion and NT$50 billion to Quanta`s overall sales.
Quanta aims to ship 36 million notebooks this year, compared to Compal`s targeted 36.5 million. But Quanta has vowed to ship 40 percent more notebooks to reach 50 million units in 2010, compared to Compal`s targeted 44 million.
