Hon Hai Encounters First-Time Sales Decline in 2009

15 January 2010

The global downturn resulted in Hon Hai Precision Industry`s, the world`s largest provider of EMS (electronic manufacturing services), encounter of the first decline in non-combined sales in 2009.

Hon Hai posted NT$133.1 billion in non-combined sales in December last year, down 3.56 percent from the preceding month and up 8.98 percent year-on-year. The company scored NT$1.42 trillion in sales in 2009, down 3.56 percent year-on-year.

Since its establishment in 1974, Hon Hai has never seen decline in annual sales, predicting it would regain growth momentum in 2010.

Most of domestic leading electronics manufacturers saw sales decline in December last year from the preceding month, showing post-Christmas waning of shipments.

Hon Hai saw monthly sales peaked at NT$162.1 billion in October last year. An industry insider explained that Hon Hai`s sales decline in December is attributable to the global downturn.

In addition, the global shipments for notebook PCs exceeded that of desktop PCs last year, impacting sales performance at Hon Hai which focuses on the sales of desktop PCs and motherboards.
