Quanta Computer Sees Flood of Orders for Cloud Computing Devices

9 February 2010

Actively diversifying its core business to production of other IT equipment, Quanta Computer Inc, the world`s largest notebook PC supplier, has enjoyed influx of contract orders for devices based on the cloud computing technology, which may serve as a growth drive for its sales revenue starting next year, according to Barry Lam, Chairman of the firm.

Lam said that his firm, impervious to the global economic meltdown in 2009, remained profitable in the year, while of its Taiwanese peers in the IT industry suffered sales declines. The firm had realized EPS (earnings per share) of NT$4.22 for the first three quarters of 2009 and is expected to achieve NT$1.36 at least for the fourth quarter, according to institutional investors.

The firm, backed by its cutting-edge development capability, has been actively engaged in the development of products based on cloud computing technology since last year as the foremost among Taiwanese IT companies. Lam revealed that his firm will send its first batch of cloud computing technology-based devices to clients for certification in the second half of this year.

In addition to cloud computing technology-incorporated hardware, Lam continued, the firm will also provide full lines of related systems, solutions and services for clients starting in 2011, poised to explore enormous business potential in the segment.

The firm reported sales revenue of NT$91.299 billion for 2009, and plans to drive up its notebook PC shipment by 40 percent year-on-year to over 50 million units this year, in an attempt to take over Compal Electronics Inc`s No.1 position in the line in terms of shipment volume.
