Singapore-based R&D center offers ready-for-production IDTV designs

7 January 2005
Tv manufacturing

iKonvergenz launched the 20” integrated digital TV (IDTV), based on the Polaris chassis that was designed and developed by the company’s R&D Center in Singapore. The chassis addresses the global DVB-T TV market, where digital TV services are gaining importance. Unlike typical reference designs on the market, iKonvergenz claims that any manufacturer can immediately adopt and apply their ready-to-produce designs on a mass production scale.

The TV is equipped with a universal tuner and can be directly connected to any VHF/UHF source. DVB reception is based on the Micronas DRX 3975D DVB-T COFDM demodulator IC and the MDE 9518D single-chip DVB compliant digital audio, video and graphic controller IC for decoding and processing of the digital MPEG-2 signal. According to the company, a unified memory interface allows cost-eff e ctive, flexible memory architectures (see diagram).

A complete software package for customers includes drivers, middleware and an application layer for standard digital television reception functionality. The DVB middleware includes channel list management, common interface (CI) support, DVB Teletext decoding, VBI Teletext reinsertion, and DVB subtitling. Also included in the package are a customizable standard graphical user interface (GUI) and the iKonvergenz “Image Automizer” solution, where video signals are automatically optimized.

“With the DVB-T market gaining momentum, many TV manufacturers are looking for cost- effective solutions that will allow them to immediately migrate from the analog to digital TV market,” said Torsten Frings, Managing Director of iKonvergenz. “We are focused on helping our customers stay competitive by providing them with that solution, that is, a ready-to-produce c o s t - e ffective quality IDTV solution that allows them faster time-to-market.”

iKonvergenz provides the LCD TV solutions in Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) format. This allows any company to distinguish its own brand from the competition through its TV design. Also available are options for digital and analog solutions.
