1-Source Electronic Components Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

7 July 2011

In 2001, Richard M Lodato launched a tiny, three-person, independent electronic distributorship that, today, employs over 50 people with offices in the USA, Central America, Hong Kong, and mainland China.

But one thing hasn't changed at 1-Source Electronic Components and that is what CEO/president Lodato calls the company's Golden Rule: "Sell the best quality products available at a reasonable price and treat your customers like your best friends, and they'll always come back for more."

"It is the foundation of our organization," says Lodato. "Everything we sell is backed by a form, fit, and function guarantee. We don't want our customers to purchase anything from 1-Source that isn't completely satisfactory. Which is why all of our products are fully inspected by us in our own warehouse and labs. Each product continues to be procured, vetted, and verified to the needs of our customers."

COO Bruce R MacArthur believes that is how 1-Source has been able to expand to become the multi-national business it is today--a company that offers its customers an array of services, including first-level prototype and engineering/design work, raw materials procurement, specialty metals, and ruggedized computing products--by offering the same broad product lines and services of its larger competitors, but with the more responsive service and responsible attitude of a more agile organization. In addition, 1-Source continues to provide top quality electronic components as it has for the past 10 years.

Specifically, in September, 2010, 1-Source opened an office in San Salvador, its first foray into the Central and South American supply chain markets.

Previously, in early 2008, 1-Source purchased an Asian inspection and testing center staffed with sealed and logistics experts. The center has grown into its current 10-person ChipChecker Ltd business that focuses on qualification, inspection, and testing of electronic components.
And, most recently, this February, 1-Source opened its Raw Materials and Specialty Metals Procurement Department to serve the aerospace, military, transportation, petrochemical, power generation, medical, nuclear, and electrical industries.

The service is designed to provide materials in standard or custom sizes, processed to meet customers' specific requirements. All grades and forms are available in sheet, plate, coil, tubing, round bar, flat bar, wire, and forgings. All material received from mills is inspected and checked to make sure material certificates meet required specifications. Materials are obtained from leading steel producers and meet the certifications of AMS, ASTM, ASME, and military specs.

"Often, with electromechanical devices, customers require specialty or fabricated metals to finalize the product," says COO MacArthur. "With the opening of our new department, 1-Source now offers electromechanical components, passives, actives, and discretes along with a full-service metal procurement service and finished metal products. As a result, customers who don't have a specialty metals group on their AVL don't have to add another source. 1-Source is already there with its newly expanded services, saving customers time and money."
