Taiwanese PC Makers to Gain From Lenovo’s Growth

As Lenovo has actively expanded its business deployments worldwide to rank among the world’s top two PC brands, Taiwanese PC manufacturers are expected to further gain growth momentum from Lenovo’s prosperity in the years to come.

British market researcher Gartner Inc issued a report showing that Lenovo shipped 10.22 million PCs for a 12 percent share of the global market in the second quarter of this year, making it the only among the world’s top five PC brands to have scored a shipment growth for eight consecutive quarters. The brand totally shipped 18 million PCs in the first half of this year for a 19% growth over a year ago, impervious to a sagging global market.

The brand is likely to outpace Dell as the world’s second largest PC brand in the third quarter at the earliest due partly to its cooperation with Japan’s NEC on jointly exploring the PC market in the country paying off.

In addition to Japan, Lenovo has also stepped up building footholds in Europe, with the efforts seen from the fact that it has allied with Germany’s Medion. Lenovo’s ambition in Europe can also be seen in its hiring of Acer Inc’s ex-CEO, Gianfranco Lanci, a major contributor to Acer’s current success in the European market for PCs.

Lenovo’s strong rise in notebook PC sales is surely good news to its Taiwanese contract manufacturers, especially Compal Electronics Inc and Wistron Corp, as the both makers are expected to garner more contract orders from Lenovo after setting up their PC factories in Chengdu, western China, to echo the customer’s call for joint development of the local market.

Reacting to its rapidly growing global market shares, Lenovo is also to increase its contract orders for all-in-one PCs with Elitegroup Computer Systems Co Ltd and TPV-Inventa Technology Co Ltd.

Taiwanese PC parts manufacturers, such as ACES Electronics Co Ltd (connectors) and Auras Technology Co Ltd (thermal dissipation modules), will surely share the business pie.
